Back to some Iceland-impressions again...

This day I spent birding and walking the southwest corner of Icelands probably best known location for birds. The lake Mývatn is very rich in various species of ducks and waders, and therefore also for raptors. Of particular interest are the relative ease, with which one can connect with 3 species otherwise rare or absent in the whole of the rest of the Western Palaearctic: Harlequin Duck and Barrow's Goldeneye (only on Iceland), and Common Loon (only sporadic sightings in the rest of Northwestern Europe). They all are nearctic species, with Iceland as an outlier.

The weather went from fog and rain, to rain, to a brief overcast but clear, and back to rain...As I walked north along the western shore, the clear weather promted me to go for the small volcano Vindbelgjarfjall, to see if I could get an overview in the otherwise flat landscape. I barely made it halfway up the slope, before it started rain again, so I only got a few panos.

Pano made from 22 pics (RAW), 50 mm, iso-125, f/7,1, 1/320 sec, developed in DPP (daylight, neutral, moderate sharpness), stitched in PTGui pro, scaling and sharpening in Irfanview.

I like this presentation with the dominant grey sky very much - gives a good capture of the mood of such a day. Cheers, Martin
