Zwischen dem Bummel in Sorrent und dem Heimflug von Neapel (beides im Bild) am späten Nachmittag wollte ich zum Abschluss meiner Italien-Reise noch auf den Vesuv. Allerdings hatte ich nicht bedacht, daß es aufgrund des großen Andrangs erforderlich ist, die Tickets für den Kraterrand lange im Voraus zu buchen. Kurzfristig werden online alle 10 Minuten noch 10 Tickets bereitgestellt, die aber immer nach wenigen Sekunden weg sind. Morgens in Sorrent hatte ich es öfters vergeblich probiert, fuhr dann aber trotzdem die schmale Strasse von Ercolano hinauf, um zumindest mal die Umgebung und die vulkanische Landschaft anzusehen. Vom Parkplatz auf ca. 840m läuft man etwa 20 Minuten zum Einlass - auf der letzten Kurve, die noch einen Balken Netz bot, gelang es mir dann doch noch, ein Ticket zu buchen, und ich konnte glücklich weitergehen. Die Ameisenstraße der Besucher wird auf einem breiten Weg zum Westrand des Kraters geführt; auf den höchsten Punkt des Berges kommt man nur mit speziellen Führungen. Auch an einem dunstigen Tag wie diesem Ist der Blick über den Golf von Neapel beeindruckend. Nach dem Abstieg hielt ich noch einmal bei einem Restaurant auf halber Höhe an und konnte noch eine ganz exzellente neapolitanische Pizza in der Sonne genießen.

Between the stroll in Sorrento and the flight home from Naples in the late afternoon, I wanted to complete my trip to Italy by climbing Mount Vesuvius. However, I hadn't realised that it is necessary to book tickets for the crater rim well in advance due to the large crowds. At short notice, 10 tickets are made available online every 10 minutes, but they are always gone after a few seconds. In the morning in Sorrento, I had tried several times in vain, but still drove up the narrow road from Ercolano to at least have a look at the surroundings and the volcanic landscape. From the car park at around 840m, it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the entrance - on the very last bend, which still offered mobile network, I finally managed to book a ticket and was able to continue happily. The ant trail of visitors is led along a wide path to the western edge of the crater; you can only get to the highest point of the mountain with special guided tours. Even on a hazy day like this, the view over the Gulf of Naples is impressive. After the descent, I stopped at a restaurant halfway up and enjoyed an excellent Neapolitan pizza in the sun.
