Schuttevaerkade and Schuttevaerhaven on the edge of the old city center. Willem Jan Schuttevaer (Zwolle, 1798 - 1881) is the founder of the Schippersvereniging Schuttevaer and opposed the high toll on the Zwolse Diep from 1850. This was an important part of the open connection of the Hanseatic city of Zwolle with the former Zuiderzee (and North Sea). Until about 1980, large warehouses for storage and transhipment for shipping stood on this site.
Photo 2007 with the Peperbus church tower in the background, and the old Schaepman factory at the Kraanbolwerk. Over the Schuttevaerbrug and the Achtergracht to the shopping center of Zwolle. See the difference with the Schuttevaerkade 2021, but if you look closely, you can just see the top tip of the Peperbus church tower.
