Going home from The Faroes in 2015, we passed Shetland on a northern course, in contrast to the southern passage on the journey up. This was due to a strong eastern wind; by aiming for Stavanger there would be a more quiet sea.

Unfortunately the islands were covered in rainclouds, so we don't see that much - only the island of Unst, and the northernmost rocks.

Originally a riddle: The pano is not put on for its beauty, but for its significance - can you crack it? Certain people will surely go through the obstacles of getting to a certain point in the pano...have fun...

Pano made from 7 pics (RAW), 50 mm, iso-100, f/8, 1/250 s, developed in DPP (daylight, neutral, ALO off, moderate sharpness), stitched in PTgui pro, contrast increased, downscaled and sharpened in Irfanview.

Without the small islands on the right I would have thought of the North Cape in clouds for a while, but I guess I will have to go on...

You are right, not Nordkap. But a part of the statement is true...

If my idea is correct, we see the northernmost point of a major island country (an island in many respects, and increasingly so), but the picture just shows islands which are not the main island. The island with the lighthouse has the charming name of "Mu... Fl..." Cheers, Martin

I have been to Scapa Flow last night, virtually, of course, and only once, not twice as Winston Churchill.
Obviously, at least if Martin is right, the picture was taken not far from there. I should have gone a further group of islands towards North?

Incredible, Martin! We are at Shetland. The lighthouse is on the holm called Muckle Flugga, and the rock to the right is called Outstack, the northernmost point of the UK. More in the evening!

Combining "north cape", "obstacles of getting there" and your panos #18051 etc. with Google Maps wasn't overly hard. So I assume this was on the return trips from the Faroes in 2015, or was it a new journey there? Cheers, Martin

Difficult for me to solve the riddle and to resist the attraction of the mystic atmosphere.
