On our second day on the Faroes, we made a sightseeing-afternoon with our host family. Main objectives were the small villages of Gjógv (pronounced "Djegv") and Saksun, on the northern parts of the two main islands, Streymoy and Eysturoy.

Here we are overlooking Gjógv; the name refers to a small gorge, with the village at the beginning of it. The weather was typical as can perhaps be seen: the calm winds from a northern direction hits the high and steep northfaces of the island (they can be seen as reverses to the Erzgebirge: gently ascenting from the south, and the highest tops in the north with steep headlands into the sea), and so clear weather at sea turns into fog and clouds in the northern parts of the islands, drying up and giving the southfaced parts dry weather.

I have added a small pano of the location, made of 6 HF. It was a bit too small, and not that attractive, to deserve its own upload, but perhaps interesting.

Pano made from 36 HF (RAW), 50 mm, iso 100, f/8, 1/200 sec, developed in DPP (ALO off, moderate sharpness, daylight, neutral), stitched in PTgui, minor contrast adjustment, downscaling and sharpening in Irfanview.

Yes, one fears pouring rain and heavy fog for a whole week, so everything better than that is a succes:-)

Fascinating place. The pano captures landscape and weather very well - would have just wished to see a bit more of the village. Cheers, Martin

Great motif! But I agree with Martin. Is it impossible to show the pictorial village undivided by cutting?

I am afraid that this was the only series I made. I remember thinking, that if I could just squeeze the church in, I would be happy. In stead I should perhaps have tried to make two rows, but I guess I am in generel just too inclined on presenting prominence, rather than focusing on the composition.

Thank you for the interest - I hope JE will visit and present an alternative.
