In Skala Potamias hatte ich zwei Nächte in einem schönen familiengeführten Hotel verbracht, um dazwischen die Tour auf den Ipsario zu machen. Am ersten Tag war ich allein beim Frühstück, am zweiten Tag eine große rumänische Läufer-Gruppe am Büffet. Gestärkt nahm ich meinen Rücksack für die weitere Wanderung über die Insel. Ein alter Weg, teils mit Steinplatten verstärkt führt südwestlich bergauf durch auch an diesem Tag wieder wunderbar leuchtenden Mischwald. Am Pass steht eine Kapelle, wie viele griechische Berg- und Gipfelkapellen dem Propheten Elias geweiht. Interessanterweise wird der Ort hier aber überall "Ai Lias" ausgeschildert - das hatte ich sonst noch nirgends gesehen. Die Kapelle ist modern und nicht besonders hübsch ein paar Meter höher hinter meinem Standort - der Schnitt mit Fokus auf Berge und Bucht gefällt mir besser.

I spent two nights in Skala Potamias at a lovely family-run hotel so that I could hike up Mount Ipsario in between. On the first day, I was alone at breakfast, but on the second day, there was a large group of Romanian runners at the buffet. Fuelled up, I picked up my rucksack for the continuation of my hike across the island. An old path, partly paved with stone slabs, leads southwest uphill through mixed forest, which was once again wonderfully luminous on this day. At the pass there is a chapel, like many Greek mountain and summit chapels dedicated to the prophet Elias. Interestingly, however, the place is signposted everywhere as ‘Ai Lias’ – I had never seen that anywhere else. The chapel is modern and not particularly pretty, a few metres higher up behind where I am standing – I prefer the view with the focus on the mountains and the bay.
