SOLVED RIDDLE.
Campocecina is a small plateau of the Apuan Alps from where you can see some of the main marble quarries of Carrara. It is a landscape outside of any scheme, partly scary, partly charming. It is also a great panoramic point not too far away from a road.

I wish you all a happy 2016.

Dear Giuseppe, it looks like a Carrara marble mine so that's where it is and shot from a viewpoint along the Strada Provinciale 59.

Bravo Mentor. We are above the marble quarries of Carrara. The precise point is Campocecina, which is a bit above the road. In Italian you could say it is a Dantesque landscape.
It is also a great vantage point. From there you can see the Elba, Corsica and the Maritime Alps. But it was all covered by fog and I did not see anything except some quarries.

The symmetrical zigzag road pattern above the quarry can be recognized on Google Earth.
Dear Giuseppe, indeed this viewpoint or even a bit higher, will deliver a super pano on a clear day (Elba+Corsica+Maritime Alps). I am thrilled to see that result...
My best wishes 2016 to you and everyone.

I'm much too late for the riddle but not too late to appreciate this pano. The Apuan Alps are actually on my "list" of interesting places for future travel...seems that there panoramic potential is yet to be discovered, as there is nothing in the vicinity. Cheers, Martin

In my opinion, you will love a lot the Apuan Alps. They seem to me mountains suitable for your characteristics.
