Unlike in Versailles the fountain system of Peterhof work by natural means and not pumps. The palace itself is built for representation purposes by the Baltic sea a few kilometers out of the city center of St Petersburg. The big fountain is switched on/off while playing the city hymn of St Petersburg every day.
