SOLVED RIDDLE.

Lake Doberdò (Lago di Doberdò) is one of the few karst lakes in Europe.

Its water level varies with the levels of the Vipacco and Isonzo rivers (distant some kilometers and communicating with the lake through natural underground tunnels). During the drier periods, its water level drops and the lake surface is reduced to canals and small pools. This particular hydrological regime is characteristic of karst lakes, which alternately undergo flooded periods (generally in spring and autumn) and dry periods (winter and summer).

In this photo you can see the lake in the dry regime. It is the same lake ;-)

It took me a while but now I found it. It is an Italian lake over limestone - a Karst lake. It is in an area which showed - at least before WWI a different population distribution than nowadays. The border is closer than the sea. Lat greater 45° N, Lon greater 13° E

Herzlichst and THANK YOU - IT WAS FUN !!

Bravo Christoph.
What led you to guess?

The trees in the water did show that it is a lake with alternating water level. So I started to browse for different types of perennial lakes (which brought me to Greenland, Africa ......) ending with "Karst lakes" as best guess. From this point on it was not to complicated - your usual radius of travel is definitively less than 2000 km and I started my search in Italy ;-)

You should do the detective ;-)

The overflooded trees gave me the hint to a karst lake, too, but I could´nt find the special one. Very interesting.
