To me, the Gokyo valley is the most beautiful part of the Khumbu area. Both the various glacier lakes and the views from the hills surrounding it are gorgeous. From here you are more far away from Mount Everest than from Kala Patthar, but the view is much more balanced.
The light on Gokyo Ri (5360 m) is best in the evenings, where the perfect time would be at full moon (which we missed by two days) where the moon rises in the same moment as the sun sets. Still here you can see the moon just risen above Mount Everest.
Experts can also spot Lhotse and Makalu just right of Everest, as well as Cho Oyu to the (far) left, and the Ngozumba Glacier in the valley.
