Eight years ago, on 29 October 2018, our roofs were shaken by the storm Vaia, which destroyed so many forests between Slovenia and Trentino.
This picture is taken barely 500 m away from the famous Karersee / Lago di Carezza. It shows the state of the forests two years after the disaster. After further six years the situation is almost the same, if not locally worse, due to illnesses which developed in the damages areas.
Something similar is going on now in Nepal, which in these hours is being reached by a severe storm from the Bay of Bengal. For the next days the authorities suspended the issue of new trekking permits, while trekkers en route have been warned "seek a bunker as soon as possible".
Disasters are becoming routine, but every actor, from individuals to governments, just looks the other way.
The idea to publish this old work came from https://www.alpen-panoramen.de/panorama.php?pid=42858
But on Alpen Panoramen today I am blocked, so let me drop the 360° here. After all, very little is visible of the Alps.
