Mal was aktuelles: Ein Familienbesuch führte mich am Feiertagswochenende ins Saarland. Als attraktives Ausflugsziel steuerten wir die Völklinger Hütte an, als von 1883-1986 aktives Eisenwerk ein Weltkulturerbe mit einer einmaligen Verbindung von Industriedenkmal und Kunstausstellung, und hier nur einmal von Peter bei ebenfalls nicht perfektem Wetter gezeigt. Helmbewehrt kann man über Stahltreppen die obere Region der ikonischen Hochofengruppe ersteigen, und findet noch etwas weiter oben einen Aussichtspunkt. Die Anlage mit ihrer überall sichtbaren Vorkriegstechnik verströmt einen morbiden Charme, der etwas an die Stilistik von Star Wars erinnert. Umso befremdlicher, dass man vor Stilllegung in den 80er Jahren wegen der Arbeitsplätze so um den Weiterbetrieb der veralteten Anlage kämpfte. Aktuell wird zum Erhalt allerdings renoviert, und der Erzschrägaufzug zeigt sich frisch gestrichen.

Something recent: A family visit took me to the Saarland on the bank holiday weekend. As an attractive excursion destination, we headed for the Völklingen Ironworks, a World Heritage Site with a unique combination of industrial monument and art exhibition, active from 1883-1986, and shown here only once by Peter in equally unperfect weather. The upper region of the iconic blast furnace group can be climbed via steel steps, equipped by a helmet, and there is a viewpoint a little further up. The complex, with its pre-war technology visible everywhere, exudes a morbid charm that is somewhat reminiscent of the style of Star Wars. It is all the more disconcerting that before it was shut down in the 1980s, people fought so hard to keep the outdated facility in operation because of the jobs it created. However, renovations are currently underway to preserve it, and the inclined ore lift has been given a fresh coat of paint.
