The western shore of Lake Maggiore is certainly more touristic and well-known than the eastern shore.
But perhaps the eastern shore offers better panoramic views.

Wonderful panorama with a very striking relief - I think you are standing in Lombardia and looking into Piemonte ;-) ... I labelled an insignificant mountain, I stood there once over 20 years ago!
