This morning, from a mountain near home, I saw a shining town 90 km far away.
The curious Betrachter may wish to determine both town and mountain.
--------------------
The story of this view starts one week before.
On Sunday 30 and on Tuesday 01 I had to play two masses in Luserna. Since now the old Kaiserjägerstrasse, climbing to Luserna from the valley, is closed due to widening works (let us hope that they do not badly ruin it...), the detour is very long, so I decided to remain up on Monday 31. I dedicated the day to a tour to the so called "Trozzo del Viazzo", a long horizontal path traversing horizontally the steep the northern side of Cima XII (you see part of it on N.32647 of Alpenpanoramen).
Later, I discovered to have lost one battery of my Sony, probably in one of the stops along that path. When I saw the foolish price that they ask for such a tiny object (no less that if it were made of diamonds), I thought: this a good excuse to return there next Sunday, even if - of course - the chance of finding the little bag containing the battery was minimal.
Once up again on the Viazzo, I was delayed by several explorations, and a certain point I decided that, being free on Monday morning, it was wiser to climb up to a bivac close to Cima XII than to descend in the darkness.
This is why at sunrise I was on top of Cima Dodici. I guessed that there was an exceptional sight, since I could see a wide stretch of the Appennino - later I discovered that some photos contain the Monte Catria, close to Gubbio and Fabriano, 299 km far away. But it was later, on the nearby Monte Trentin, pushing the Zeiss zoom to the limit, that I realized that, in the middle of the stripe of reflection, some lines full of towers seemed to rise from the water. This must be either a mirage or Venice, I thought, and so I took some chaotic sequences of shots. Sorting them out, I realized how lucky I had been to have the sun exactly over Venice, highlighting its silhouette. Namely, as you see, outside that lucky stretch the view is not that clear.
Who is on Facebook, may check the group DoloMitici, which that evening was full of works of tele-shots showing "stravedamenti", that is, exceptional sights, typically taken from the Lido, and showing Venice with, in the backgound, the Civetta (typically) which seems to be right behind the corner. From those posts I also learnt that there had been a strong bora wind the previous night, wind that strangely did not reach the region of Cima Dodici, which is easily very exposed to it.

Saluti
Alberto.
Appennini: provo ad assemblarli...
