Nach den knapp zwei Tagen im touristischen Zentrum von Mykonos und Delos suchte ich einen dazu markanten Kontrast. Häufig fahren die großen Fähren verschiedener Reedereien die Strecke von Mykonos über Tinos und Andros nach Rafina in Attika - eine Strecke, die sich als weitere Reiseroute anbot. Nach der Ankunft auf Tinos vor dem 10minütigen Fußweg vom neuen Fährhafen zu meinem im Zentrum der Chora gebuchten Hotel bot sich dieser Standort für einen schnellen Panoramaschwenk, um die mittägliche Alltagsszene einzufangen.

Tinos ist bekannt als größter griechischer Wallfahrtsort, mit der Evangelistria Marienkirche oberhalb der Stadt. An einem Tag ohne große Pilgerströme ist der Ort ruhig, entspannt und sympathisch. Der starke Wind hielt noch an und sorgte für durchgehend eingehüllte Berge. Am Nachmittag ging sich aber doch noch eine wunderbare Wanderung aus, die aber mehr durch die Stein- und Hohlwege im üppigen Grün zwischen nebligen Dörfern begeisterte als durch weite Aussicht.

After almost two days in the tourist centre of Mykonos and Delos, I was looking for a striking contrast. The large ferries of various shipping companies frequently travel the route from Mykonos via Tinos and Andros to Rafina in Attica - a route that offered itself as the further itinerary. After arriving on Tinos before the 10-minute walk from the new ferry port to my hotel booked in the centre of the Chora, this location lent itself to a quick panoramic sweep.

Tinos is known as the largest Greek pilgrimage site, with the Evangelistria Church of St Mary above the town. On a day without large crowds of pilgrims, the place is quiet, relaxed and likeable. The strong wind still persisted and ensured that the mountains were shrouded throughout. In the afternoon, however, a wonderful hike was still possible, offering stony and hollow paths in the lush greenery between foggy villages rather than wide views.
