On December 24-25-26 we had an unprecedented sequence of Fernsicht days here in northern Italy.
The first day, 24-12, I was on the Pizzo di Levico, 1908 m, from where I could see Monte Cimone like it had happened to me only once before. But I could not linger taking photos and panoramas, since I had to rush to a rehearsal for the evening mass.
On 25-12, from the top of Fravort, 2347 m, I could see all the northern Appennino like I probably had never seen before.
But it was the following day, 26-12, from the same summit, that the visibility in that direction reached the top. This is the view that I show here, although plagued by some vignetting problem that at present I am not able to overcome.
I think that it is an useful complement to the incredible works that Giuseppe Marzulli is presenting from more west.
Very impressive, however, remain some Einzelbilder of 25-12: I photographed simultaneously the Sneznik, 1796 m, at 246 km in Croatia, dominating Rijeka, and Monte Penna, 1730 m, at 229 km in Liguria, dominating Chiavari and Portofino.
Of the many pages that I could write about the present view, I note only three tiny details:
- Monte Fumaiolo, at 167.7°, hosts the spring of Tevere, the river of Roma;
- Monte Falterona, at 173.4°, host the spring of the Arno, the river of Firenze and Pisa;
- Monte Cimone, at 193.7°, due to its strategic placement is said to be the mountain showing the largest amount of Italian territory.

Dal Fravort, vedere l'Appennino non è del tutto eccezionale. Nelle mie 208 salite alla montagna penso di averlo visto o intravisto diverse decine di volte. I 450 metri in piú di quota rispetto al Pizzo aiutano non poco, a dispetto della distanza leggermente maggiorata, a superare le infami nebbie e polveri piú o meno sottili della Padania!
Vedere l'Appennino a questo livello di definizione, invece, e fino al Carpegna, è decisamente eccezionale. Avviene cosí che soltanto ieri, identificando le cime in questo panorama, mi sono reso conto che da una cima che salgo da casa con la bici e gli sci si può vedere... il fiume di Roma!
Jens: yes, the colours were interesting, fully different from those of Christmas day. Only, I do not understand why the vignetting of this lens, at long focal lengths, is sometimes not understood by Hugin.
Giuseppe: non mi pare male il tuo risultato dal Grappa. Comunque ripeto che se tu fosse andato sui Lessini uno di quei tre giorni sarebbe stato un gioco da ragazzi fare la foto al Monviso. Anche essere in Emilia, sul Cimone, con tutto l'arco alpino schierato davanti, avrebbe avuto un suo valore.
