Location: Terneuzen, Waterfront (66 m)      by: Mentor Depret
Area: Netherlands      Date: 2018 09 10 2:57 PM st
Built: 2018
LxB: 400.0 m x 58.8 m
Deadweight: 199692 t
Gross Tonnage: 217612
TEU capacity: 20388
2 sister ships: Ever Goods, Ever Golden

Container ships are ranked according to TEU capacity (twenty foot containers) and on that metric Ever Genius is No. 20 although the difference with the first 19 is small. The biggest today are 6 OOCL sister ships capable of carrying 21413 TEU's. However if one compares on deadweight, which stands for how much weight the ship can carry, the OOCL's are only 191977 tonnes while the Ever Genius 199692 tonnes. So comparing only on TEU's doesn't tell the whole story. Ranked on deadweight the Ever Genius is 13th and surpassed by 10 Maersk triple E second generation vessels with 210019 tonnes of deadweight and two CMA CGM's. You can see one of the Maersk's, the Moscow Maersk on my pano http://www.panorama-photo.net/panorama.php?pid=22717

However the outer dimensions of all these mega ships are nearly equal: length 399 m to 400 m and width 58.6 m to 59 m. So they look all the same size. But the shape of these ships differs slightly. The rounded, dark green hull of Ever Genius looks nice. Be aware that most of the containers on the ship - and on most container ships - are FEU's or 40 foot.

Zum Glück habe ich Dein Pano aufgeklickt!
In der kleinen Vorschau dachte ich zuerst, es sei ein Flüchtlingsboot kurz vor dem Kentern!

@Walter, that would mean 20000 TEU's with 25 persons each, making 500000 refugees. But someone told me that such a gigantic ship has only 10 crew members....

Apparently the ship is not fully loaded. Is the capacity too large for the market or has it already cleard some containers in another harbour? Cheers, Martin

Hi Martin, the ship is indeed not fully loaded. But it certainly unloaded a lot of containers in Antwerp. When these giants come to Europe, they visit many harbors among which: Le Havre, Southampton, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Bremer Haven. Sometimes they are fully loaded but I have seen already a few completely empty. They never unload the whole ship in one harbor. Someone told me that a Maersk triple E unloads 3000-4000 FEU's in Antwerp in 2 days. And 2 days is about the average they stay there.
