Pulsano Abbey (Abbazia di Santa Maria di Pulsano) is a special and almost unknown place.
The Abbey (visible on the right) is interesting and pleasing to see. His position does not need comments.
But the most interesting thing is the hermitages.
In the overhanging rocks, both on the right and on the left, but further down, there are 24 hermitages, where hermit monks lived, in shelters carved into the rock.
Often the hermits could not access their cell except through ladders or ropes tied pulley.
To reach the hermitages it is necessary to follow difficult paths and only a few are easily recognizable.
In the pano I could not recognize any hermitage (the ones I saw were lower), but I do not exclude that those who are experts of the place can recognize someone.
The place has been abandoned for many centuries and has often been the subject of vandalism.
The historical importance of this site has been rediscovered only a few years ago. I hope it will be adequately protected, but, in my opinion, he is not given the attention it deserves.
