The Cyclopean Isles, noted for their rows of basaltic columns piled one above another, lie not far from Mount Etna and are of volcanic origin.
The name comes from the legend according to which the rocks in front of Aci Trezza are the stones thrown by the Cyclops Polyphemus against Ulysses fleeing, as narrated in Homer's Odyssey.
