Palmanova ist eine idealtypische barocke Festungsstadt, die von den Venezianern im mittleren Friaul zum Schutz vor den Türken angelegt wurde. Sie sollte aber auch als Festlandstützpunkt Bedeutung erlangen, was aber misslang.
