Dear Werner, yours is an idiomatic expression that is not used in Italian ;-)
If I sense what you mean, in Italian it says "the morning hour has gold in the mouth"
In any case, you're right, because it was (relatively) early in the morning.

Questa ce l'hanno anche in tedesco, dove fa pure rima: "Morgenstunde hat Gold im Munde".
Sarebbe anzi bello che piú fruitori apprezzassero questa favorevolissima congiuntura di soggetto unico in luce unica...
