Certaldo is the town of Boccaccio and the pano was taken from that which, according to tradition, is the tower of his home.

I do not know if Boccaccio is known outside of Italy.
Boccaccio (1313-1375) was one of the greatest Italian Writers and along with Dante and Petrarch, is considered one of the fathers of Italian literature. His most famous work is The Decameron.
In Italian we use the adjective "boccaccesco" to mean something licentious ;).

Certaldo is only 8 Km from San Gimignano...

Nice to see how the Palazzo(i) dominate(s) the township. Greetings HJ

I know the small medieval town of Certaldo very well. Quiet, no traffic and nice restaurants :-) The high altitude Certaldo Alto is associated with the modern lower town via a rack railway.
The town organized several festivals a year and provides a great backdrop. The famoust is La Mercantia, a great historical medieval festival, that brings the place for a few days back to ancient times.
I have made several smaller panoramic pictures of Certaldo, also from the dominant Palazzo Pretorio with its adorned facade. Maybe I'll show one of them in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the comments. Dear Werner, I think you know better than me Tuscany. I'm glad that you know well Certaldo.
Instead, I understand that the Decameron is not known outside Italy. I thought it was known all over the world...
