Location: Sagres (35 m)      by: Jens Vischer
Area: Portugal      Date: 23.08.2009

Comments

This panorama has a strong connection with the previous one, 10434. Namely, during the ascent from where the latter comes, I had in the backpack, for evening reading, José Saramago, whose "Travel in Portugal" ends precisely in the place you are showing - it is here that he declares in a serious mood: The travel is finished. But then, as you turn page, you find an addendum: "No, the travel does never finish... you have to see in spring what you saw in summer, in sun what you saw in rain [...] the travel has to restart again and again, always". Actually, I had carried Saramago with me to the Pamir after having found this quotation leaning on a wall inside the Presanella refuge.
Never seen with my eyes this "Finisterra do Sul", where Saramago writes that under high rocks you see the ocean waves without even hearing them, but I have experienced the same at the other Finisterre, reaching the end of the Camino de Compostella - another travel that one would like to restart ever and ever!!

In my opinion, it makes very well the ambiance of the place.

LG Alexander
