... or the (smaller) Adige flows into the (bigger) Isarco ;-)

Good observation, but it depends on what you measure ;-)
Looking at the rivers from Bolzano, it would seem more logical for the Adige to continue toward the Brenner Pass.
But the issue is that the stretch of the Adige from Bolzano toward the Resia Pass (Reschenpass) is longer than the Isarco.
To be precise, the Isarco is 95 kilometers long, while the stretch of the Adige from its source to its confluence with the Isarco is approximately 125 kilometers long.

Okay, I should have said that the Adige flows into the Aurino in Bolzano. The Ahrn/Aurino is significantly larger and longer than the Rienz/Rienza in Bruneck/Brunico, the Rienz is significantly larger and longer than the Eisack/Isarco in Brixen/Bressanone, and this branch of the river is significantly larger and longer than the Adige/Etsch in Bozen/Bolzano. If I roughly measure the valley length (without river bends), it's 125 km from the source of the Ahrn/Aurino to its confluence with the Adige, and the Adige Valley (including the Langtauferer Valley) is 112 km. Hydrologically, the Ahrn/Aurino is therefore the main river. I know of no other river system where the naming deviates so drastically from the hydrological facts.

"Betrayed rivers", is how I call them. :-)
