Als Rätsel eingestellt / originally a riddle:

A one-night stop-over passing through an area where I could have stayed longer, but not cheaply. For some people here, probably easy to solve. I am also asking for the name of an important historical person.

I don’t have time to look into it tonight. The landscape is typically Italian. One of the hallmarks of Tuscany is the presence of cypress trees, often in rows—but I don’t see any cypress trees here. I would lean towards the Langhe region.

Unmistakable is the skyline of DdA, I think taken from somewhere near GC.

Congratulations to Alberto and also to Giuseppe. Just as Germans sometimes have to remind foreigners that Bavaria is not all of Germany, the same holds that Italy is more than Tuscany.

I have now resolved. When I set up the riddle and had to choose a country, I was very much tempted to select "Albania", but thought that this would reveal too much.
