The church has a certain connection to Egypt.

@Giuseppe
yes, Egypt and Alessandria (a tip for the audience)
I was reading a comment about the interieur of this church.
Some one said it is a church for the believers not for the tourists. But I found its way...
But the church is very nice and is known for its perfect acoustics, which made it very suitable for preaching in the past and now makes it ideal for concerts :-)

ist nun verortet.
It struck me as very odd that a church in Pisa would be dedicated to an Egyptian saint.
In Italy, everyone knows Saint Catherine of Siena—one of the most famous saints—but as I am no expert on the subject, I had been unaware of the existence of a Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
I expected to find a rather uninteresting church; instead, to my surprise, I discovered a truly beautiful one. It still serves its religious function but is also used for concerts, thanks to its excellent acoustics.
I later learned that there was nothing strange about the saint having been born in Egypt, since the country was part of the Roman Empire during her lifetime.
All probably started with Ptolemaios, followed by Gaius Julius Caesar and Kleopatra, by studying my Asterix library ... :-)
A remarkable painting exists of her, done by Caravaggio (I think it is about her Martyr)
Cheers, Martin
