Jörg: nasty topic, this of hiking boots. I buried a totally worn-out pair of the celebrated La Sportiva boots at the southern end of the Carretera Austral: yes, I had used them quite a bit, but not to justify such an ending. Few days later, I was lent a pair of Asolo Sport (yes, old, but...), which unglued very readily on the summit. So I had no doubts: my next mountain shoes will "speak" German, maybe I will look for some Lowa or Meindl.
Subsequently, on Alpen Panoramen, I read of a panorama which was shot on the foresummit instead of the true summit due to the unglueing of a pair of Lowa. If I am not wrong, a mocking name was also reported, but I do not remember the details.
NB: in one of the panoramas in der Umgebung you see still better how here you can dispense with boots!

HJBäu: "wer sich der Einsamkeit ergibt"... ja, für Sicherheit hatte ich auch den GPS mit - nicht ohne Ersatzbatterien!
