After climbing Punta Yanayacu, in spite of the rather late time, I decided to attack the black tower which is visible in N.26891. Namely, from the pass it hid the spectacular switchbacks leading to the Punta Olímpica, which I had cycled two days before, see N.27578. Meanwhile, I had descended into Conchucos as low as Acochaca (2800 m), crossed the unpaved Pupash pass at 4060, and finally descended again to the wonderful Yanama, 3400 m. Now I was once again on the main Andine watershed, at no more than 4 km from the previous crossing.
In my previous panorama from Punta Yanayacu you can read the story of the bicycle parking at the beginning of the Quebrada Ichic Ulta. 5 kms from Yanama.
The tower itself is less difficult than it may seem, actually with only one stretch of rock climbing which I would rate II, but not exposed.
The name "Black Tower" is of course invented for ease of reference.
