Wat Xieng Thong is a famous old temple in Luang Prabang the former capital. Situated on a river bank between the rivers Mekong and Nam Khan. Built around 1560 by King Setthathirat it was the place where kings were crowned until the Communist Party seized power in 1975. (Source: http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Lao/WatXiengTemple/Default.htm)
