Tarquinia is located at an altitude of 133 meters on a hill overlooking the lower course of the Marta River from the left, near the Via Aurelia, in the Maremma region of Lazio, not far from Tuscany.
It was one of the oldest and most important Etruscan cities. The Etruscans were a people of ancient Italy who lived between the 9th and 1st centuries BC in an area called Etruria, roughly corresponding to Tuscany, western Umbria, and northern and central Lazio. Tarquinia is famous for its Etruscan necropolises, for which it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Necropolis aside, it is still a very pleasant town. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarquinia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monterozzi-Nekropole |
