Den einzigen noch komplett trocken vorhergesagten Tag hatte ich mir für die Serra de Monchique reserviert, die ein grünes Hügelland (von "Bergen" möchte ich nicht sprechen) bietet, das wohl insbesondere im Sommer im markanten Kontrast zu den Küsten der Algarve stehe. Von Portimao / Praia da Rocha ist man in einer knappen Stunde auf guten Straßen hier. Durch die gute Erschließung beginnt die Rundwanderung ungewöhnlicherweise oben auf dem Gipfel. Gelegenheit, von einem markanten Felshaufen herab gleich vor dem Losgehen mal die Szenerie einzufangen. So fing der Nikolaustag schon mal interessant an.

I had reserved the only day that was forecast to be completely dry for the Serra de Monchique, which offers a green hilly landscape (I don't want to talk about "mountains") that is a striking contrast to the coasts of the Algarve, especially in summer. From Portimao / Praia da Rocha it takes less than an hour on good roads to get here. Due to the good access, the circular walk unusually starts at the top of the peak. An opportunity to take in the scenery from a prominent rock outcrop right before setting off.
