On November 21st Venetian people celebrate the solemnity of the Madonna della Salute, a truly popular holiday. In 1630 the Doge expressed a solemn promise to Virgin Mary if she would have overcome the terrible illness that rushed across the city. In order to honor that promise a marvellous church was built up, based upon Baldassarre Longhena's project. Since then, each November, all Venetians go on a pilgrimage to the basilica to pray to the Madonna for protecting their own health and all the people' sanity. In this occasion the bridges on the Canal Grande grow up to four (five after the controversial Calatrava's) because it's built a temporary bridge over boats between Santa Maria del Giglio and San Gregorio.
