Lerici is a town in Liguria, situated on the coast of the Gulf of La Spezia, part of the Italian Riviera. It is known as the place where the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley drowned.
We talked about it in the pano 15601 and we had also said that another famous English poet, Byron, had swum from Portovenere to San Terenzo, a village in the comune of Lerici, that you see in this pano.
Lerici is also mentioned by Dante in his Divine Comedy.
In consideration of all these great poets, the Gulf of La Spezia is also called the Gulf of Poets.
