It has been a fairly cold winter over here in the Greater Toronto Area, but we haven't had all that much snow: The biggest precipitations may have been in the form of (freezing) rain just before Christmas. When it snowed and it was colder, strong winds simply blew the snow away.

As a result there wasn't really any snow on the sandy beach at Rouge Beach last week. However, lots of ice had built up along the actually shore line. - For this picture I was actually standing on several feet of ice and snow - normally this location would be in the water....

@ Wilfried: Ich moechte mir eigentlich nicht vorstellen, wie kalt ein Winter sein muesste, damit dieser 19,000km2 grosse See zufriert.

Allerdings habe ich gelesen, dass der nur wenig suedlicher gelegene, aber weniger tiefe Lake Erie letzte Woche zu ueber 90% zugefroren war.

I imagine that you used a very strong suncream to tan on this beach!
