Location: Belvedere di Diano d'Alba      by: Martin Kraus
Area: Italy      Date: 22.10.2026

On my evening in the Langhe, I drove from Grinzane Cavour (#35371) for a few minutes up to Diano d'Alba – which is also visible from there – where, next to the church at the highest point of the hill, there is a lovely viewing platform; however, due to several trees, it does not offer an unobstructed panoramic view from any one spot. It was cloudy to the west and only a few mountain peaks were visible. I hadn’t given the view a second thought until the next morning, when Cervino and Monte Rosa greeted me in all their glory through the large window of my accommodation’s breakfast room. So, before continuing my journey into the mountains (AP #42875 from the same day, labeled in red), I made a quick detour back to the Belvedere – this time with a magnificent view of the Western Alpine arc and the Langhe (in particular the area of Barolo) in the foreground. Only Monte Rosa is obscured by the church, so the Cervino is left to proudly represent the Valais alps, 150 km away.
