The river Sile is the longest \"risorgiva\" river in Italy - 95 km -, and perhaps one of the most important of this kind in Europe. In fact, its waters come out from several springs (\"fontanazzi\") in the open countryside near Treviso, and flow in Adriatic sea north of Venice lagoon. For its calmness and navigability, river Sile was used to carry people and goods between Venice and Treviso on great boats named \"burci\", that were towed up-stream by oxes and horses using riverside paths named \"restere\". At present, these paths are one of the most beautiful routes for cyclotourers, who can reach Venice lagoon from Treviso without crossing trafficated roads.
