I am fascinated by the ancient Egyptians. Osiris was their god of rebirth and afterlife and represented by the constellation of Orion.
I shot this pano a year ago when Betelgeuse was dimming a lot and some scientists thought it was a sign the giant star was going to explode in the near future (means of course hundreds to thousands of years). Anyway it is clear on this picture that Betelgeuse lost a lot of its brightness. A few months later however, the usual brightness came back. Maybe it was a dust cloud obscuring the star.

Canon Eos M6 with EF-M 11-22 m, 9 p raw, 16 mm (25.6 mm KB), iso 400, f 6.3, 15 s, 3400°K, sky and land processed differently resulting in 18 pics in PTGuiPro, 9858x3659 145.3 MB TIFF, downsized >1830>1000>500, 1310x500 498 KB JPEG

I hate to destroy such a fine detailed pano to an archean 500 px. When will this site finally upgrade to at least a 1000 px?????????

With this Osiris, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and artistic 2021!

Very interesting to read. Too bad you had to downscale that much, maybe one day we will get more Pixels...

Großartig, wie du es schaffst, die Sterne über dem Lichtermeer der Stadt abzubilden.

Herzliche Grüße und alles Gute in 2021,
Dieter

I like the many lights! Labeled informatively. I agree that such motifs are not shown to their best advantage on this website. Maybe you can cause a change. The last change on this website two years ago was also caused by your initiative, if I remember correctly.

Great work, Mentor!

Nice comments, thanks guys.

@Dieter: processing the sky and the city differently allows to make the sky darker while keeping in check the city lights. I am also experimenting to combine 2 series of pictures with different settings.

@ Jörg and Jens: I sent the web owner already several requests to increase the pixel height but I never got an answer back. Maybe we should ask this as a group? Of course storage costs will increase but I would be happy to pay a fee for the improved site. Another improvement would be the backround color. Night views like this ask a darker background instead of the overwhelming white.

Also for you a happy and healthy New Year 2021, Mentor - and keep up your fascinating observations in 2021 ... and get in touch with the Lego company - Dieter will be pleased ;-)) !!!!

Cheers, Hans-Jörg
