Diese häufig beschriebene Tour hatte ich mir schon für einen im Mai 2020 geplanten Urlaub, der dann aus bekannten Gründen nicht stattfand, herausgesucht. Die Vorfreude, daß es nun klappte, war dementsprechend groß. Der Cornón ist der westlichste der höheren Gipfel der kantabrischen Kordillere. Von Puerto de Somiedo führt ein guter, markierter Weg nach Westen. Zwischenzeitlich wird die Wegfindung in einem Weidegebiet mit Kühen und Pferden etwas anspruchsvoller, bis das markante Horn vor einem liegt und man den gerölligen, aber problemlosen Schlussanstieg erreicht. Anfangs hatte ich den Gipfel für mich und konnte ein paar Serien schiessen; dann kam noch ein nettes spanisches Paar. Die Wolken behinderten die Aussicht noch nicht, man sieht ihnen aber an, daß das Wetter wie am Vortag nicht mehr lange halten sollte.

I had already chosen this frequently described tour for a holiday planned for May 2020, which then did not take place for well-known reasons. The anticipation that it now worked out was accordingly great. The Cornón is the westernmost of the higher peaks of the Cantabrian Cordillera. From Puerto de Somiedo, a good, well-marked path leads west. In the meantime, the wayfinding becomes a little more challenging in a pasture area with cows and horses, until the prominent horn is in front of you and you reach the scree-like but problem-free final ascent. At first I had the summit to myself and could shoot a few series; then a nice Spanish couple came along. The clouds did not hinder the view yet, but one can see from them that the weather, like the day before, was not going to last very long.
