After the tour of Bezbog and Polezhan, we had reached the valley by chairlift, not quite as cold as in the morning, and had travelled a little further, through Canadian-looking forests, and past villages with more minarets than church spires, to the nice spa town of Velingrad. From there, the easternmost part of the Rila Mountains can be reached. Here, the wide grassy areas form a pleasant contrast to the world of boulders we had hiked through the days before. One can drive up to the reservoir and ascend on good paths. The swelling clouds accompanied us also on this day - we had saved the most stable weather for the following days.
