The small main town of Andros has an urban feel in places. Due to the slightly different climate, the Cycladic architecture with white cube-shaped houses familiar from Santorini or Mykonos is not to be found here; rather, the buildings are more stately and has red pitched roofs. Here's a quick pan across the small square at the gateway to the old town. The cafes were slowly filling up in the morning. The archaeological museum is somewhat out of place structurally, but offers an excellent collection, especially of the ancient main sites of Zagora and Palaiopoli.
