A nice little pano was brought back from a quite crazy ride to these remote islands - back and forth in a day. I went there because of an incredible finding of a small, dull bird - a Sulphur-bellied warbler (Phylloscopus griseolus). This was the first time ever it was seen in the Western Palaearctic (a short-distance migrater from Central-asia), and I was twitching alongside people from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and France among others.

It must be stressed, that going to this part of Denmark is not expensive, thanks to regional support for travelingmeans (planes and ferries), but it is very time consuming. Cheapest - and slowest - from say Copenhagen, is to take a train to Køge in the late evening (cheap and easy, every 20 minuttes), from there walk on the night boat to Bornholm (31 euros for a return ticket). There are sleeping benches on the boat. On Bornholm, the ticket is valid for the busses, so in the harbour take a bus to Gudhjem. There, unfortunately, one has to wait to 10 am before the ferry to Christiansø departs (33 euros for a return ticket). Arrival at 11 am. Then return at 2 pm, and home very late. One can of course take a faster route back over Sweden or fly, but at a more expensive prize, of course. It was a gamble with only 3 hours on the island (5 is possible on the same day), but it paid off.

There was sadly a quite heavy fog over the Baltic, so I didn't make any telepanos from the Christiansø, but it cleared up a bit in the afternoon, with this being my only pano from the "mission".

Originally a short-lived riddle, solved by AB within minutes of the upload:

A dangerous action, with fresh unsolved riddles in the system, but perhaps it will get some attention...

The date is right, and so is the orientation. I wonder if anyone can figure out what I am looking at. Of course, it isn't any old schärengarten part, it is a landscape of a certain significance. Have fun...

Pano made from 5 pics (RAW), iso-100, f/9, 1/500 s, 50 mm, converted in DPP (daylight, neutral, ALO off, moderate sharpness), contrast increase, downscaling and sharpening in Irfanview.

Jan, I guess the island on the right is C on the ...most edge of D. And you came from G (or S?) on B to this island. KR Arno

Fantastic, Arno. The islands of Ertholmene, with the largest called Christiansø. Easternmost part of Denmark, NE of Bornholm. More tomorrow!

Too easy for skilled people ;-)

So, updated with labels and some description.

A very nice view of these little islands, Jan. Most amazing for me is that the next images in the vicinity are from Rügen and not from Bornholm. I never thought Bornholm is a blank spot on our map. KR Arno

@Arno
Yes, I also noticed. I am sure we will see panos from Bornholm sooner or later. I think under the right circumstances that Rügen will be possible from the tower on the highest point (Rytterknægten). And well done, btw. How did you rekognize the islands anyway?

Jan, many years ago I was on Bornholm - for one short day. But that's not the point - a few days ago I saw a report on german TV about a roundtrip on Bornholm including a side trip to Christiansø. And the first I recognized was the yellow house.

An interesting motif. Well chosen and presented.

A truly remote place - sounds and looks attractive. Cheers, Martin
