SOLVED RIDDLE.

Vigo is a city situated in north-west Spain, in the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia, and on the eponymous ria (or bay), on the Atlantic Ocean.

I had a guess but it was wrong ...

I think I got it - this town/harbour played a famous role in the submarine part of second world war. Cheers, Felix

Now I've got it too. Not the TYPICAL U-Boot Hafen but a place for good food.
2015/06/16 18:29 , Christoph Seger
As suggested by Christoph, it is a place more suitable to make a good meal of fish, rather than a submarine warfare. I think Felix has thought of Brest, but is not Brest. However, the city has a vague resemblance to Brest.

Giú polpo gallego, insomma...
2015/06/16 19:27 , Pedrotti Alberto
Oh sorry, i haven't thought of Brest - my comment referred to a special coorperation between a "neutral" and an involved state.
2015/06/16 19:38 , Felix Gadomski
Hello Felix. I'm really curious to know what city you thought.
2015/06/16 19:41 , Giuseppe Marzulli
You got a message from me :-)
2015/06/16 19:47 , Felix Gadomski
@Felix: congratulation. You guessed.
Christoph and Alberto also guessed.
After a while I will insert the labels.
2015/06/16 19:48 , Giuseppe Marzulli
Ah,
so this is where Italy once faced Poland, but could not win?
2015/06/16 20:59 , Matthias Knapp
@Matthias: I swear that I have not inserted for the semifinal of the World Cup 1982 ;-)
2015/06/16 21:24 , Giuseppe Marzulli
@Chistoph and Albert: I think in Galicia I made greater fish dinners of my life.
2015/06/16 21:30 , Giuseppe Marzulli
Giuseppe, for the semifinals you would have to do a pano from Barcelona:-)
2015/06/16 22:03 , Jan Lindgaard Rasmussen
@Jan: I think you're right :-)
Sooner or later ...
2015/06/16 22:16 , Giuseppe Marzulli
Nice communication !! Felix - by the way, I had a hard time in following your thoughts, from the palm tree it was clear that it is not in northern France and in the Mediterranean there was no major hub. Then I remembered "Das Boot" and everything was easy ...

I did not know the film "Das Boot" and the connection with Vigo. Now I read the reviews. It must be a very beautiful film.
2015/06/17 00:19 , Giuseppe Marzulli
It truly is, Giuseppe. I hope you will take time out to watch it. War as meaningless struggles, pains and losses is well shown. KR Jan.

Nice riddle!
I have to admit that I wasted some time searching for spots in the Mediterranean Sea on Google Earth yesterday...

Interesting view of this port city. Appealing the previous island chain.
You could guess that if you saw the movie "Das Boot", surprising me.
Although the film with "40,000 Germain sailors served on U-boats during World War II. 30,000 never returned" begins, he glorified arguably the war of the Nazis.
2015/06/17 19:14 , Heinz Höra
From the reviews it seemed like a film against war and Nazism, but, not having seen it, I can not judge.
2015/06/17 23:54 , Giuseppe Marzulli
Dear Heinz
Your words do suggest that you have also not seen the film, neither did you read the book. Thinking both are glorifications would put books like "Im Westen nichts Neues" by Remarque and others into the same light ....

I did not have time for the riddle. On a first glance, this city looked even a bit Nordic, but closer inspection of the buildings told me that this is not true. Still astonishing, this place doesn't look "Spanish" either. Cheers, Martin

Many Galicians (like many Catalans), consider themselves different from the Spanish. In Galicia, for example, the place names are all written in Galician, which looks a lot more to Portuguese that to Spanish.
