Vercelli is an Italian city of 50,000 inhabitants, known in Italy as the "Rice Capital", because in its surroundings there are many historic rice fields. Piazza Cavour is the main square of the old town.

A typical Italian marketplace. The statue probably depicts the Conte di Cavour. It must have been very cold, because he and his lightly dressed neighbor have a scarf tied around the neck :-)

I've heard of severe weather in northern Italy. I hope you and your family is fine.

Thank you, Werner. Where I live it rained a lot, but no damage.
Yes, the scarf was put by some joker.

So I have to think of Vercelli and of your panorama now, when I try to cook a Risotto at weekend.
Saluti Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang. The risotto is one of my favorite dishes.
The rice fields are very photogenic, but must wait for the spring.
Italy is the largest European producer of rice. But only produces one million tons of rice annually. China produces 197 million tons of rice annually ;-).
But the Italian rice is much more good.
