SOLVED RIDDLE.

Canossa is not just a metaphorical place, but a real country ;-)
And I went to Canossa, but Matilde was not there.
Only a few ruins remain of the castle of Canossa, but the place is still very suggestive.

Is it located near or in the Crete Senesi ?

Hello Hans-Jürgen. It is not in the Crete Senesi, nor nearby.
A German emperor went to this place.

Federico I (HRE emporer) ?

Then it was Enrico IV (Heinrich IV), and we see his "travel destination" Canossa ?

Once in a lifetime probably everyone's facing such a "Walk to Canossa" - just kidding :-)

I agree. At least once in our life, we all went to Canossa.

The first version of the riddle was too hard, and for the second version I was too late. Still very interesting. Cheers, Martin

interesting & very beautiful - in the prominent leaning tree on the left... there's a pretty big stain or smear... would be even better if you could fix that

Thanks Augustin. I have corrected.
