Blick auf den Karkstein (564m), einen markanten Zeugen des Meteoriteneinschlages im Nördlinger Ries. Er ist Mittelpunkt und zugleich Namensgeber des Naturschutzgebietes "Tonnenberg, Käsbühl, Karkstein" am westlichen Riesrand. Speziell am Abend strahlt seine Felswand in einem herrlichen Licht.

the best overview over the crater (the diameter is approx. 25km) you probably get from top of the Ipf (e.g. pano # 3061). For more detailed information you can also go to www.geopark-ries.de (includes information in English).
The story we learned in school about the rocks here on this picture is that they were thrown in the air by the impact and then fell down beside the crater.
