An early morning view of Lake Atitlan from the village of Panajachel on its eastern shore.
The lake is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, which in my opinion it is, if you do not look at it too closely and oversee all the rubbish that floats in it.
The jetties at this time of the day are still empty but boats and ferries that bring tourists to the attractions around the lake will soon pop up and break the calm.
From the three volcanoes seen, Atitlán (last eruption 1853), Tolimán and San Pedro, none is active.
The lake itself fills a huge caldera that was created approx. 40.000 years ago.

Betörendes Blau in Wasser und Himmel, schöne Komposition mit den Stegen -- und derzeit 2292 km zum nächstgelegenen Panorama! Bekommen wir noch mehr aus dieser Gegend zu sehen? VG Martin
