SOLVED RIDDLE.
The expression "marshes of Massaciuccoli" (Padule di Massaciuccoli) is used to indicate an area of about 2000 hectares that it would be more appropriate to define as the wetland of Massaciuccoli. In this area, however, the marsh has been drained to obtain arable land.
Hence the name "via della Bonifica" (reclamation street).

While I enjoy the sky, I leave the riddle to the friends of flat lands... Cheers, Martin

My Italian is no good, but thanks to Google i was able to translate Alberto's comment. I guess you're near (or on?) Via della Bonifica?

Right. Via della Bonifica.

Uh, I should have had an idea, because it wasn't far away from a recent stay.

Out of interest:
have you been on Monte del Legnaio earlier or later ?

No, I've never been. But sooner or later I'll go there.
