Circus Maximus in Latin means the "largest circus".
The Circus Maximus (Circo Massimo in Italian) is an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium and mass entertainment venue in Rome. In the valley between the Aventine and Palatine hills, it was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire.
It could accommodate over 150.000 spectators and became the model for circuses throughout the Roman Empire.
Nowadays, only a few traces remain of what was once the Circus Maximus and only the huge rampart that retains the shape of the enclosure can be seen.
It is the place where, for example, the famous chariot races took place. If anyone has seen the "Ben Hur" movie (that of 1959), he knows what I'm talking about.
It was the Formel 1 of the Roman era ;-)

Perfect. I have shot a similar one this year, but your's is much better, with sun on the Circus and without various disturbances from an event when I passed. Cheers, Martin
