During winter Months, navigation on the great lakes pretty much comes to a standstill, not least because part of the some of the lakes and harbour areas freeze over.
In typical manner, conditions in this early January picture don't look all that wintery. Nevertheless, the Welland Canal was out of service and also drained. I was surprised how small it looked all of a sudden.
I wasn't sure how to best compose a image that shows both the Canal and fairly tall Lift bridge in an attractive fashion. I wasn't ready and equipped to try climbing down into the Canal and had family members waiting in the car, so I opted for this perspective.
