Firework was forbidden in the Netherlands as well as in Belgium. In previous years, they shot several thousands of sky-rockets here in Terneuzen alone. This time, I guess a few hundreds. But these people clearly didn't respect the rules. This corona virus has given planet Earth a bit of breathing space, to recover a little from the overwhelming impact humanity has on nature, unfortunately not for long......

True spoken - and well designed.

Rules better have a purpose. This New Year the main issue was not fireworks. Nevertheless the fireworks usually go with side effects, one being the loss of social distancing, and given the dire pandemic situation, on balance I can accept the "no fireworks" rule as being reasonable.
A happy and healthy New Year

So we expect the version of next year to compare. I hope we will see much more firework. I am not a fan of this, but it will be a good sign for normality.

Because of your friendly comment, I think you forgot to rate my #28626 :-)

@Jörg, Yes I forgot, corrected, but I differ with you about normality. Shooting thousands of sky -rockets is abnormal. These colors are the result of exciting electrons of (heavy)metals, which are poisonous. So doing that is polluting the environment a lot. Also animals are often in total panic. I can tell you the days after new year, nearly all seabirds are gone here in Terneuzen. To me firework by the crowd must be forbidden and only allowed by experienced people on 1 fixed location per city. Best regards, Mentor

Thanks Mentor, I think we don't differ: Let me replace "normality" by "bad habit".
